Being known as the 'foodie' in the group can be tough work at times.
I don't know about the rest of you but I'm always (mildly) terrified when someone asks for a recommendation. What if I give them a suggestion I love, but they happen to have a shitty waiter serving them that night and they have a miserable time? What if all my options are too expensive? What if they're just super picky eaters?!
Fortunately the mighty gods of gluttony (or demons...? It is a sin no..?) have been good to me. Friends have always seemed to enjoy wherever I direct them and my reputation stays untarnished.
So what was I leading on to again?
Oh right, so I have recently acquired a new set of 'blogging enablers' (just picked them up in the shop y'know...), the lovely Rashi and Tegan, and as with all new enablers, it takes a little bit of time to figure out what would suit them just right.
So once Naked for Satan started offering their 'pintxos' for 50 cents for Monday nights as well, I was quick to inform the girls and we were quicker to arrange a girls night out!
Naked for Satan is a pretty cool space, it was surprisingly packed at about 6:30, although I managed to grab a little table near the front (which in my opinion is much nicer than squishing in the dark room out back), and the crowd slowly dispersed over the night and I was quite surprised to see it was almost somewhat dead by about 8. Don't people still want dinner?!
High ceilings, massive copper-y, steam punk-esque machinery and a pretty sweet aura of cool. Did I mention steam punk-esque machinery? Love it.
So how does it work here?
Well first thing. Drinks are treated as if you were at a bar, order at the bar, pay at the bar, bring back to your seat. Simple enough. I can't remember exactly what this was called, but it's their version of a sangria, essentially. Not too sweet, almost a little dry, but we all loved it. And for $16 a half jug between 3 girls, I didn't think it was unreasonably priced. We had two of these. Shame I was driving.
The 'Pintxos' are kind of tapas-esque, in that they are small little nibbles, served on baguettes that are usually smeared in some delicious creamy goodness or something cheesy. Yum, yum and yum!
They're set up at the bar, ala-buffet-style, you go up grab a plate, grab your food and also grab one of these friendly, fluro mini cups.
To keep track of how many nibblies you've had of course! Although it is an honour system (or appears to be, I didn't notice any spy cams on me while I was eating...), I think for the most part, I can't imagine anyone who wouldn't comply, especially when each piece is only 50 cents (or if you come for dinner on other nights $2, which is still not bad at all.)
There's quite of variety up for grabs, although I feel it is quite spanish inspired. The baguettes are topped with rice balls, eggplant chips on blue cheese (surprisingly delicious together!), smoked salmon with capers, oysters on....something and many, many, many more.
Don't forget to keep an eye out for the waiters with plates who come around with piping hot and freshly made pintxos that aren't in the buffet line. This was a delicious hot sausage, surprisingly spicy!
There's not much in the way of desserts, the only thing available really was the chocolate filled cannoli that you can spy on the left of my plate there. I'm not well-versed in what cannoli should be like, but I found the skin a bit thick and hard, since the inside was so soft. But that's just my opinion. It's chocolate, I'm not going to argue too much.
So you think a dinner of pintxos won't fill you up? Do remember, everything thing is served on a lovely thick baguette. Try eating 10 pieces. I didn't even eat all the bread and I was happily stuffed.
And even happier when I went up to pay and found my food bill only came to $5. Hey big spender!
Naked for Satan is a cool place to be in, I enjoyed the relaxed vibe, which is reflected in the serving style. Unpretentious, but tasty. At 50c, I can't complain about what I ate. I'm super keen to come back and try more of their drinks, maybe get driven next time and try some of their infused vodkas, their list of cocktails sounded absolutely divine.....
