Coin Laundry

With spring blowing in, it's time to turn out those cupboards, get that broomstick up where the cobwebs are and give everything a good clean out. Believe me my wardrobe needs it...

A place which has taken this whole spring cleaning thing quite a bit further is Coin Laundry, snuggly tucked off the main road and in a cosy little house in Armadale, which has completely cleaned out the old washing machines and dryers that used to occupy it's space when it was a coin laundry (as per the name), and converted it into a (still) clean, airy and inviting cafe space. It was almost like walking into a Vogue living magazine for spring, featuring pastels and country-loved style brickwalls. And a bit of a do-it-yourself ceiling, which I found quite interesting.

Their lunch menu was only a few items, with their focus obviously being on breakfast with a far more extensive list. So again. Whilst we were there at almost 2pm in the afternoon, breakfast it was.

Brad's coffee looked absolutely gorgeous, whilst I quite enjoyed my chai.

I always go a little weak at the knees when I see something mentioning sweet corn cakes. I'm not sure why, but it's one of those things I love eating, but don't go out of my way to have that often. And whilst I love eggs, it's a nice variation. So lucky for me, Coin Laundry's ricotta and sweet corn cakes came with a poached egg and additional avocado, tomato salsa and a bed of salad. Whilst the 'cakes' weren't as 'cake'-ish or even 'pancake'-shaped as I expected, it was quite interesting. The 'cakes' were more like mounds of ricotta with sweetcorn throughout it. Definetly a lot more filling than I anticipated! The richness of the ricotta was definitely not helped with the avocado and poached egg, which oozed deliciously over everything. Although fortunately the salsa gave a bit of bite which lightened the dish. Quite tasty.

Brad as he tends to, went with the Coin Laundry breakfast, with 2 poached eggs, avocado, spinach, bacon, beetroot relish and roma tomatoes. It all looked fairly good, the beetroot relish tickled my interest and it was indeed quite sweet and lovely. The last thing I did get to sample after I finished my dish was a bit of the bacon, which was just absolutely delicious. I've admitted to friends that I'm not the biggest fan of bacon, but when it's really good bacon, I think I can tell. So savoury but not fatty, oily or burnt. Will definetly get more of that next time!

Whilst service was polite, I found them to be a little bit inefficient and a little bit unobservant. We were seated speedily, but it felt like everything after that took a while to come out. I had to perch on my chair and make very deliberate eye contact in order to maybe get someone to the table to take our order, the food took a little bit of time as well and when it came to the bill, I found 3 additional coffees on it I certainly did not order! But honestly, these points weren't too obvious, as I said, service was polite and I think if the staff polish up a tiny bit more the place will be even more pleasant to visit.
